Taxi Dog (www.taxidogedu.org), an evidence-based social and emotional learning (SEL) program, promotes empathy, self-regulation, and well-being in children (Pre K- to 3rd grade) through the use of literature, video, puppetry, and mindfulness. Taxi Dog incorporates the five core social and emotional competencies delineated by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (www.casel.org) with explicit instruction and opportunities to practice social emotional skills via multi-sensory activities. Session participants will learn about caring classroom contexts, the development of perspective-taking and empathy, and how these relate to prosocial behavior. Program evaluation findings will be shared (Schonert-Reichl, et al, 2015).
